Lilac
Lilacs are among the most loved floral ingredients for special occasions such as weddings. A popular choice for wedding displays, lilacs are generally associated with springtime, making them ideal for occasions marking some new beginning in a person’s life, for example the birth of a child.
Lilacs, despite the name, are not always in purple tones, for the white varieties are also particularly pretty. These were traditionally thought to symbolise purity and youth, hence the reason people often choose them for weddings and new arrivals.
Lilacs on their own are very engaging and delicate, but in combination with other blooms they can make an even more attractive impact. Because of their unique shape, a small amount of lilac in a bouquet can lend it a level of depth and texture that most flowers fail to reach.
Although they appear small and delicate, when you take a closer look at lilac flowers they are actually incredibly intricate, as are most flowers when you look closely enough. Their deceptively simple appearance conjures up exotic, oriental images, with fragrant scents to match.
Many women love lilac, so they are perfectly placed to form part of a bouquet or other display intended for romance, anniversary celebrations or indeed a birthday gift for a female relative or partner.
It’s really difficult to go wrong with lilac, whether on its own or in conjunction with other flower varieties. Although it does naturally chime with spring, lilac brings a gentle touch of colour to any moment.
